Join the Portland Alternative Investment Association and CFA Society of Portland for a discussion on Opportunity Zones.

Registration begins at 4:30 pm at the Multnomah Athletic Club.

The panel discussion will be preceded by networking, drinks and hors d'oeuvres.


Theresa Nute - Investor Relations Manager at Urban Development + Partners

Theresa leads the development of new investor relationships for UD+P. Theresa focuses on developing investor relationships that include Investment Advisors and Family Office executives whose values are aligned with UD+P’s long term, high value approach in the local Portland market. Theresa holds a MBA in Finance from the Kellogg School and Northwestern University and a BS from Oregon State in Information Systems and Engineering.

Prior to UD+P, Theresa led business development activities for several healthcare IT companies focused on addressing needs for Government and State Medicaid agencies. She worked on Wall Street as an investment banker for Credit Suisse First Boston in their technology banking unit. Theresa is an Oregon native and her family maintains two working farms in the Willamette valley.

Michael Grenier - Managing Partner at Wy'East Ventures

Michael Grenier leads Wy’East Ventures, a special situation investment company with a mission to invest in opportunities that can accelerate our transition to a clean energy economy.  Mike is a serial entrepreneur with multiple successful exits and a 20 year career that spans software, venture capital, energy, and finance.  Over the last 18 months, Wy'East has been actively pursuing investments in clean energy projects in Opportunity Zones, in partnership with Vision Ridge, a private equity fund with $1B in assets under management.  Mike has a BA with honors from Stanford University and an MBA from the University of Maryland.

Elizabeth Crouse - Partner at K&L Gates

Elizabeth Crouse is a partner at K&L Gates who provides business-focused solutions for U.S. federal, state, and international tax problems in a variety of transactions and investment structures. She has significant experience assisting multinational businesses and investor, developer, and operator clients in the renewable energy industry, including storage and secondary market acquisitions of renewables facilities by taxable and tax-exempt organizations. In addition, Ms. Crouse is familiar with navigating the challenges and opportunities of the Opportunity Zones incentive, U.S. federal and state renewable energy tax incentive programs (including the investment tax credit, production tax credit, and 1603 cash grant), post-TEFRA partnership audit rules, and compliance with the Foreign Account Tax Compliance Act (FATCA) and the Common Reporting Standard (CRS). Ms. Crouse has been recognized as a "Rising Star" by Super Lawyers magazine and is the co-director of the Seattle chapter of Women of Renewable Industries and Sustainable Energy.  Ms. Crouse received her J.D. from the University of Michigan Law School and her LL.M. from New York University School of Law.  Prior to beginning her legal career, Ms. Crouse served in the United States Navy.

Trent Baeckl, CPA - Partner at Perkins & Co.

Trent joined Perkins & Co in 2007 and is a shareholder in the tax department. Trent’s professional background in public accounting includes experience in tax for a variety of clients and entities focusing on tax planning and compliance work for pass-through entities and corporations. Trent splits his time serving the real estate industry, retail businesses. manufacturing and distribution companies, and professional and creative service firms. His real estate background provides an affinity for tax planning and consulting for partnerships. He also works with the owners of these closely held businesses to ensure that planning is comprehensive in nature. Trent holds a Bachelor of Science of General Studies from the University of Michigan and a Master of Accounting degree from Washington State University. He is a member of the American Institute of CPAs and Oregon Society of CPAs, where he has served on the real estate education committee, and currently, he serves on the board of St. Andrews Legal Clinic and Portland Alternative Investment Association.

Kat Miller - Associate at K&L Gates

Kat Miller is an associate at K&L Gates who focuses her practice on investment funds, investment managers, mergers and acquisitions and corporate governance. She advises domestic and offshore private fund managers as well as institutional investors regarding investments in hedge, private equity, venture capital and other hybrid funds. Ms. Miller has experience in assisting clients navigate complex regulatory requirements, including compliance with securities laws, SEC and CFTC rules and the Investment Advisers Act. Ms. Miller received her JD from the University of California, Hastings College of the Law and her BA from the University of South Carolina.  She serves on the board of the Portland Alternative Investment Association.
