Board Members

  • Austin Head-Jones, CFA, CQF - President

    Austin is a Manager Research Consultant working in the Investment Manager Research department of RVK, Inc. Founded in 1985, RVK provides national investment consulting services to institutions including pensions, endowments, and foundations. Austin joined RVK in 2017, and is located in their Portland office. She is a member of the Alternatives team and covers alternative credit and private real estate debt. Austin previously served as an Associate Director at PAAMCO, a fund-of-hedge-funds in Irvine, CA, evaluating credit-focused hedge funds and researching tactical investment opportunities in the credit alternatives space. She also briefly worked as a contractor for Pension Consulting Alliance on several projects related to their Crisis Risk Offset (CRO) offerings. Austin has an MBA with honors from the University of Chicago Booth School of Business. She also graduated magna cum laude from Brown University with a BA, majoring in international relations. Austin is a CFA Charterholder and has received her Certificate in Quantitative Finance (CQF).
  • Kat Miller - Vice President

    Kat Miller is an associate in the Portland office of the global law firm K&L Gates, focusing her practice on alternative funds, corporate governance, and mergers and acquisitions. She advises both investors and fund managers on organizational, regulatory and securities compliance matters unique to private equity funds, venture capital funds, hedge funds and other pooled investment vehicles. She also has experience supporting corporate clients in a variety of industries including food and beverage, retail, and healthcare. Prior to joining K&L Gates, she was an associate in the Corporate and Investment Funds and Advisers departments at Shartsis Friese LLP in San Francisco. Kat has a BA from the University of South Carolina and a JD from the University of California Hastings College of the Law.
  • Sam Kavehrad, CAIA - Treasurer

    Senior Research Analyst. Sam currently sources, evaluates, and selects hedge fund strategies on behalf of institutional clients at RVK (Formerly R.V. Kuhns & Associates). Founded in 1985, RVK provides national investment consulting services to institutions including pensions, endowments, and foundations. Between 2008-2014, Sam served as a Research Analyst evaluating equity-oriented, credit, and macro hedge fund strategies at multi-billion dollar investment firm Common Sense Investment Management. Sam graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in Finance from Portland State University and is a CAIA Charterholder.
  • Trent Baeckl

    Trent Baeckl is a Tax Senior Manager at Perkins & Co, P.C. which was recently recognized by the Portland Business Journal as Oregon’s most admired accounting firm. Trent specializes his technical expertise in flow thru taxation (partnerships & S corps), sale and structuring consulting, and high net worth individuals. As a member of the executive management team in the firm’s real estate practice, he provides planning and compliance services working with real estate investment funds, developers, owner/operators, architects, as well as single family home developers. Trent attended the University of Michigan for his Bachelor of General Studies and received his Master of Accounting from Washington State University – Vancouver, where he has also served as an adjunct professor.
  • Ryan Lobdell, CFA, CAIA

    Ryan is a consultant at Meketa Investment Group where his responsibilities include general consulting, liquid alternatives manager due diligence, asset liability modeling, and capital markets research. He is also a member of the firm’s Strategic Asset Allocation/Risk Management committee. Ryan received his Bachelor of Science in Finance degree from Linfield College. He holds the Chartered Financial Analyst designation, and is a member of the CFA Society of Portland. He also holds the Chartered Alternative Investment Analyst (CAIA) designation and is a member of the CAIA Association.
  • Li Tang

    Li is a portfolio manager and partner at Radnorwood Capital, managing a long short hedge fund and a long only fund in technology sector. Since 2017, Li has been the board chairman of 2Fuel Technologies, a software startup providing fuel management system to displace diesel with cleaner and cheaper natural gas. Before joining Radnorwood in 2013, Li was a technology sector portfolio manager at Mazama Capital. Prior to that, he was a sell side analyst with Pacific Crest Securities covering Greater China semiconductor and telecom sectors. Before his investment career, Li had various finance and engineering positions with Intel, John Deere and Trak Communication. Li has a MBA from UCLA, a MSEE from New Jersey Institute of Technology, a BS from Beijing Institute of Technology. He has been a CFA Charter holder since 2005.
  • Sam Spencer, CAIA

    Sam is an Investment Officer for the Oregon State Treasury, covering the Real Estate Portfolio of the Oregon Public Employees Retirement Fund (OPERF). She is involved in the day-to-day management of the $9 billion Real Estate Portfolio, including conducting diligence on new investment opportunities as well as providing oversight of the portfolio’s various limited partnerships, separate accounts, and joint ventures. Before joining OST, Ms. Spencer was a Senior Manager Research Analyst at Pension Consulting Alliance (PCA) covering real estate, timberland, and agriculture asset classes. Ms. Spencer received her B.A. in Economics and International Business from Whitworth University. She also holds the Chartered Alternative Investment Analyst (CAIA) designation and is a member of the CAIA Association.
  • Heidi Sobol, CFA

    Heidi is a senior consultant at Geffen Advisors LLC, a specialist consulting firm that offers strategic advice and solutions to investment managers, including hedge funds, private equity funds, fund of funds, and family offices. Her work focuses on funds’ financing relationships, including the impacts of bank capital and derivatives regulatory reforms since the financial crisis, as well as the negotiation of trading documentation that governs funds’ relationships with the dealer community. Prior to joining Geffen Advisors when she moved to Portland in 2016, she was Treasurer at a large multi-strategy hedge fund in New York for nearly five years. Prior to the fund, she worked for 14 years at Deutsche Bank, in various business and credit risk management roles focusing on the bank’s business with hedge funds. Heidi earned an A.B. from Colgate University in Economics (with honors) and East Asian studies, and is a CFA charterholder.
  • Paul Reedal, CFA, CAIA

    Paul Reedal is a Senior Private Markets Research Analyst with BMO Family Office, an integrated wealth management provider that serves ultra-affluent individuals, families and family offices across their tax, estate, investment, philanthropic, risk and family capital needs. As a senior member of the Private Markets Research team, Paul is actively involved in researching and recommending private markets investment managers for clients. He plays a lead role in sourcing, due diligence, selection, and monitoring of private markets funds and working with clients to implement their firm’s recommendations. In his prior role, Paul was a Hedge Fund Research Analyst actively involved in researching and recommending hedge fund investment managers for clients’ portfolios. His responsibilities focused on conducting qualitative and quantitative analysis of hedge funds and liquid alternatives along with portfolio implementation. Paul received his Bachelors of Science degree in Finance and a certificate in Global Management from the University of Oregon. He is also a CFA and CAIA charter holder and a member of the CFA Society of Portland
